FNG Exclusive… Another sports sponsorship in the books for the Retail FX sector.

FNG has learned that Swiss online trading firm Swissquote has inked a deal to sponsor its local Genève-Servette Hockey Club for the upcoming 2020-21 season. (Swissquote is actually headquartered in Gland, about a 20 minute drive outside Geneva).

Ice hockey is a very popular winter sport in Switzerland and northern Italy, with the Swiss League being one of the top three international leagues outside of the NHL in North America. This writer’s favorite active player, Auston Matthews of the Toronto Maple Leafs, spent one year in the league with Zurich’s ZSC Lions before heading home to become a star in the NHL.

Swissquote will become a Gold Sponsor of Genève-Servette, and its logo will appear on the team’s goalie pads at each game.

This deal marks the latest in a long line of Retail FX broker-European sports team sponsorship agreements to launch in the past few months, although most of the others have been with soccer teams.
