OANDA Japan to hike FX and CFD margin rates, certain positions to be transferred to MT5
OANDA Japan Inc, a subsidiary of online broker OANDA Corporation, today issued a notice regarding position transfer due to a change in OANDA Securities Tokyo Server MT4 margin rates.
In light of the recent rapid market fluctuations and other changes in the market environment, and in order to comply with relevant laws and regulations, protect its customers’ assets, and strengthen its risk management system, OANDA Japan will be changing the MT4 margin rate after the close of trading on Saturday, June 12, 2026.
- FX: All instruments currently at 3%, 4%, and 5% → Uniformly 10% (after the change)
- There will be no change for currency pairs that already have a margin rate of 10% or higher.
- Stock Index CFDs: 10% → 20% (Leverage 10x → Leverage 5x)
- Commodity CFDs: 5% → 10% (Leverage 20x → Leverage 10x)
- There are no changes to the margin rates for NY server MT4 and MT5.
Due to this change, for customers with a margin maintenance ratio of less than 200%, who are deemed to be at particularly high risk of stop-loss, OANDA Japan will transfer their positions to MT5 to protect their assets.
Customers who already have an MT5 accounts will have their positions and balance transferred directly to their existing MT5 account. Please note that FX can only be transferred to MT5 Standard plan accounts. Transfers to MT5 discretionary plan accounts are not possible.
For customers who do not have an MT5 account, the broker will create an MT5 account for them and will transfer their positions and balance. For FX, OANDA will create an MT5 Standard Plan account.
Only positions and balances held on the Tokyo server MT4 will be transferred. The NY server MT4 will not be transferred as there will be no change in margin requirements.
EAs (Expert Advisors), indicators, chart layouts, and other settings used in MT4 cannot be transferred.
For accounts with a margin ratio of 200% or higher, position transfers will not be performed this time.
If your current margin maintenance ratio is low and you do not wish to transfer your positions as of June 12th, please deposit funds to bring your margin maintenance ratio to 200% or higher.
