Nikhil Rathi reappointed as FCA chief executive
His Majesty’s Treasury has announced the reappointment of Nikhil Rathi as chief executive of the FCA for a second term.
Nikhil Rathi, Chief Executive of the FCA, said:
‘I am honoured to be reappointed by the Chancellor. The FCA does vital work to enable a fair and thriving financial services sector for the good of consumers and the economy. I am proud of the reforms we have delivered to support growth, bolster operational effectiveness, set higher standards and to keep our markets clean and open. While we must go further and faster in this age of volatility, the UK is well placed as a major international financial centre.’
Nikhil Rathi was appointed Chief Executive of the FCA on 1 October 2020.
He began his career in HM Treasury before serving as Private Secretary to the Prime Minister between 2005 – 2008. He then became Head of the Financial Stability Unit, overseeing a number of the UK’s financial stability interventions before becoming HM Treasury’s Director of the Financial Services Group from 2009 – 2014. In that role, he also served as the UK representative to the EU Financial Services Committee.
Nikhil Rathi joined the London Stock Exchange (LSE) in 2014, and was appointed CEO in 2015.
He holds a BA in philosophy, politics and economics from the University of Oxford.
