Exclusive: Crypto.com Prediction Markets head Travis McGhee departs
FNG Exclusive… FNG has learned that Travis McGhee, who served as Global Head of Predictions at crypto exchange operator Crypto.com, has left the company.
Crypto.com had been aggressively expanding its Prediction Markets business lately under McGhee’s leadership, including signing an agreement with DraftKings, and launching its own OG.com sports prediction markets brand.
Travis McGhee had been with Crypto.com since 2022, when Crypto.com acquired Nadex from IG Group, where Travis served as Chief Commercial Officer. At Crypto.com Travis served as CEO of the company’s Crypto.com | Derivatives North America unit, and last year was promoted to Global Head of Predictions, charged with leading Crypto.com’s event contracts and prediction markets offerings, and its planned expansion into additional jurisdictions.
Travis has also previously worked at TradeStation, and at OptionsHouse (acquired by E*Trade).
A number of longtime, senior executives have left Crypto.com over the past few months, including CMO Steven Kalifowitz, and Chief Legal Officer Nick Lundgren, who also served as CEO of Crypto.com’s sports prediction markets brand OG.com.
Travis posted the following note on social media regarding his departure from Crypto.com.
It’s with a heavy heart that I announce, after 4 incredible years, I have left Crypto.com. To think it all started with a prediction market exchange (Nadex), 8 years ago, before prediction markets were even cool. With such an incredible team at Nadex we were able to position that nondescript exchange, and lead it through the post-COVID retail trading craze of 2021, and then the acquisition by Crypto.com in March of 2022. Since that time much of that same Nadex team continued to deliver. Everything from turning the exchange into 24/7 operations, to securing a full CFTC license stack, to being the first exchange to go live with sports event contracts. To say the team was the “best in the business” is an understatement. Now you can’t scroll half a swipe before coming across a prediction market article. It’s crazy to think how far we have come. I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank some of those who were instrumental in that journey: Stephen Humenik , Marcus Dees , Andy Snyder, CPA, CAIA, Steve Goodsell, Sophie Johnston, Kevin Dan, Nick Lundgren, Joe Anzures, Joaquin Gubb, Matt David, Ian Peacock, Nikhil Joshi (and I know there are far more I have missed).
Best of luck to the entire Crypto.com organization! As for me and what’s next…who knows what the future holds. Time will tell. At the moment its a lot of 8 year old soccer games, 10 year old dance competitions, and 12u travel baseball for this dad.
