SGX signs new licensing agreement with MSCI, to introduce up to 100 new contracts
SGX Group (Singapore Exchange) is strengthening its global derivatives franchise with a comprehensive expansion of its equity derivatives shelf. Under a new licensing agreement with MSCI, SGX will introduce up to 100 new contracts.
The initial phase comprises around 40 futures and options contracts across major developed and emerging markets economies. These contracts span MSCI’s flagship global developed market benchmarks, key Asia-Pacific single-country indexes and EM Asia sector indexes, expanding the tools available to investors to manage equity risk across global portfolios.
This marks a material broadening of SGX’s equities derivatives franchise. Building on its established listed access to key Asian exposures, including China, Japan, Taiwan and ASEAN, SGX is extending its shelf across more of the global, regional and sector-specific building blocks investors use to allocate capital and manage risk. The expansion reflects how institutional portfolios are now managed across benchmark suites and regions and strengthens SGX’s role as a trusted offshore venue for centrally cleared portfolio hedging and benchmark exposure on one platform.
Loh Boon Chye, CEO, SGX Group, said:
“SGX has built a distinct capability in creating markets around the exposures that global investors need. This is about taking the benchmarks that matter to institutional portfolios and building the infrastructure that makes them tradable, liquid and risk managed. As portfolios are increasingly managed across regions, themes and benchmark suites, our comprehensive MSCI suite gives investors a broader platform to manage global equity risk through one trusted venue.”
Henry Fernandez, Chairman and CEO, MSCI, said:
“MSCI’s mission is to give the global investment community the tools and insights they need to understand and navigate markets with confidence. This agreement reflects our commitment to ensuring that MSCI’s most critical benchmarks are accessible to investors wherever they manage risk, and we are pleased to expand our long-standing partnership with SGX to make a comprehensive suite of MSCI’s global and regional indexes available to institutional investors.”
