Exclusive: CFDs broker Trade Nation adds EU license in Portugal
FNG Exclusive… FNG has learned that UK based Retail FX and CFDs broker Trade Nation has added an EU license, to enable it to onboard clients across Europe. Trade Nation didn’t go the usual route and get licensed in Cyprus (CySEC), Malta (MFSA), or Germany (BaFin), but rather turned to Portugal, receiving authorization from Portuguese financial regulator Comissao do Mercado de Valores Mobiliarios (CMVM), for subsidiary Trade Nation Europe – Empresa de Investimento, S.A.
A small handful of CFD brokers also hold a CMVM license, including ActivTrades and XTB. The CMVM license is ActivTrades’ main EU authorization, while XTB holds other EU licenses, including from CySEC and its home regulator in Poland (KNF).
The CMVM license was formally issued to Trade Nation on April 15, 2026. We understand that the company is now finalizing steps to start onboarding retail clients into the new entity in the coming weeks.
We’d note that Trade Nation recently hired Lisbon based executive Luis Dos Santos from Finalto, to serve as CEO Portugal for the company.
The Trade Nation brand also operates via licensed businesses in the UK (FCA), South Africa (FSCA), and Australia (ASIC), as well as offshore entities in Seychelles and the Bahamas.
Luis Dos Santos, CEO of Portugal at Trade Nation, said in a statement,
“Europe is an important region for Trade Nation and our presence there is growing along with our client base. The number of retail investors in the EU is growing fast which is a trend that we aim to capitalise on by providing our award-winning, intuitive and specialist trading platforms.
“We are all about putting control back in the hands of our customers, so launching our services in the native languages is an important part of Trade Nation’s strategy of expanding its global reach to traders across the world.”
About Trade Nation
Trade Nation and its various brands are controlled by UK entrepreneur Jasper White, who bought control of the company (then known as The Trader Management Company Limited) in 2014. Jasper White was previously CEO of sports betting concern Gambit Research.

In 2025 Jon Noble, former COO of IG Group, was hired as CEO of Trade Nation. The company also late last year onboarded former IG Group executive and former Capital.com CEO, Kypros Zoumidou, as Managing Director.
