CFDs broker VARIANSE: 25% of clients use cTrader Copy
An interesting report put out today by broker technology provider and cTrader trading platform developer Spotware Systems and CFDs broker VARIANSE, a long-standing cTrader partner, showcases the impact of cTrader Copy – a built-in social trading platform within cTrader. The results indicate that around 25% of VARIANSE’s cTrader clients now use cTrader Copy, and strategy providers have attracted millions of dollars in investor allocations.
VARIANSE points to the sheer range of clients cTrader Copy attracts as one of its biggest strengths. Its base spans clients using cTrader Copy as investors alongside their own trading, experienced discretionary traders who have become strategy providers, algorithmic traders commercialising their systems, as well as IBs and money managers who use cTrader Copy as the technology around which they build an entire client proposition.
For many, the platform removes what has traditionally been a significant barrier: the gap between being a successful trader and being able to build a scalable investor following.
How VARIANSE delivers cTrader Copy
VARIANSE said it doesn’t take a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, it tailors how it presents cTrader Copy to each type of client.
For an investor, the conversation is generally about discovering strategies, transparency, diversification and maintaining control over the capital they choose to allocate.
For an experienced trader, VARIANSE instead introduces the opportunity to become a strategy provider and potentially monetise their strategy through the fee structures available to strategy providers.
For an algo trader, cTrader Copy provides an opportunity to make algorithms built in cTrader Algo available to investors as copy strategies.
For an IB, educator or influencer with an audience but no investment product of their own, cTrader Copy can provide a ready-made proposition that they can introduce to their network.
And for established money managers and strategy developers, the focus shifts toward scale: the execution, technology, reporting and investor-access infrastructure needed to grow from a small private network into a much larger operation.
VARIANSE backs all of this with direct client communication, its relationship management team, partner network, educational materials and digital campaigns.
Case 1: 2,000 followers and $2 million allocated in three months
One strategy provider came to VARIANSE as a trader and strategy developer in search of a way to distribute his strategies to a wider audience without having to build his own copy-trading technology, reporting infrastructure or investor interface.
With cTrader Copy, he published the strategy with a transparent trading record, letting prospective investors examine its performance before deciding whether to commit capital. Within roughly three months, the strategy had attracted more than 2,000 followers and around $2 million in investor allocations.
VARIANSE sees transparency as one of the biggest drivers behind that growth. Prospective investors are not stuck with manually assembled performance reports; instead, they can view ROI, equity development, drawdown, profit factor, trading history, instruments traded and other statistics directly within cTrader.
Distribution plays an equally important role. With cTrader Invite, a dedicated strategy can be shared with trading communities in a few taps, so providers with an existing investor network can send prospective clients straight to the strategy that caught their attention.
Case 2: How a discretionary trader built a network of 900+ investors
Another VARIANSE client was an experienced discretionary trader focused mainly on EURUSD and GBPUSD. Rather than changing the way he traded, cTrader Copy allowed him to take an activity he was already performing and build a commercial proposition around it. Over roughly six months, his network grew to more than 900 investors, with around $500,000 allocated to the strategy.
VARIANSE pairs cTrader Copy with its own partner infrastructure, helping the trader grow an introducing-broker network with multiple layers of referrals underneath it.
“This illustrates something we think is particularly important about cTrader Copy: a good trader can become more than just a trader. They can become a strategy provider, build an audience around their track record, generate strategy fees and, where appropriate, combine this with a broker partnership to develop an additional referral revenue stream. For IBs, educators, trading communities and influencers, that creates a very different proposition from simply referring clients to a broker. Instead, they can give their network something tangible to engage with,” said Thube (TJ) Jumbe, Head of Sales at VARIANSE.
Case 3: $1.2 million allocated from an existing HNW network
One VARIANSE strategy provider ran a semi-automated gold strategy and already had access to a network of high-net-worth investors. Here, reaching potential investors wasn’t the challenge. What he needed was a way to give them enough transparency, accessibility and control to feel confident in committing capital to the strategy.
Using cTrader Copy, he built a professional strategy profile and drew in roughly $1.2 million in allocations from his existing network.
Investors can track both the underlying strategy and their own allocation directly in cTrader, across all devices. They keep full control over their allocation: cTrader Copy lets them decide how much capital to commit to an individual strategy and stop copying whenever they choose. Moreover, equity stop loss lets investors set an equity level at which copying automatically halts and copied positions close out.
Why cTrader Copy works for VARIANSE
“There’s a clear difference between being shown a headline return and being able to investigate the strategy behind it,” said TJ. Traders and investors, he notes, point to the depth of performance data as a key differentiator.
Mobile usability also matters to them. Investors increasingly expect to manage their allocations wherever they are, so they appreciate the ability to discover and monitor strategies on any device.
For strategy providers, cTrader Copy delivers much of the infrastructure needed to turn a strategy into a strong commercial product. Providers can establish a strategy, build a verifiable trading history, attract investors and choose how to monetise it. A flexible fee model supports performance, management and volume-based fees, which providers can use individually or combine. Performance fees follow a high-water-mark methodology, which ties fees to new net profits, rather than repeatedly charging investors on gains they’ve already paid for.
VARIANSE reports that it sees particularly strong demand among professional traders with an established track record, algorithmic traders and developers, money managers, trading educators and signal providers, IBs and trading influencers. For these groups, cTrader Copy provides the technology to reach investors, monetise their expertise and grow their audience.
“If we had to summarise why cTrader Copy has succeeded, we’d point to five things,” TJ added. “Transparency, since investors can see all the details behind the strategy. Control, with risk-management tools and no long-term lock-in. Commercialisation, letting traders turn a strategy into a scalable product. Distribution, through partner-sharing tools. And scalability: a provider can go from one account to thousands of investors without building their own technology stack. That last point is what excites us most. We’ve seen traders arrive with a good strategy and a small network, then build entire businesses around it. That’s where VARIANSE’s infrastructure and cTrader’s technology come together.”
Yiota Hadjilouka, COO at Spotware, added,
“cTrader Copy was built around the Traders First™ approach: giving traders more ways to participate in the markets on their own terms. For some, that means following experienced strategy providers. For others, it’s about turning their own trading expertise into a trading business. What VARIANSE has achieved highlights that principle in action: real client activity and new commercial opportunities for both traders and brokers.”
