UK SFO comments on Court overturning Christian Bittar’s conviction
The UK Serious Fraud Office (SFO) today issued a brief update regarding the ruling in the case of former Deutsche Bank trader Christian Bittar.
Today the Court of Appeal overturned the conviction of Bittar, who previously pleaded guilty to conspiracy to defraud.
The decision follows the court’s earlier ruling overturning the convictions of seven LIBOR and EURIBOR defendants whose cases proceeded to trial.
Jason Williams, Head of Division at the Serious Fraud Office, said:
“We argued for a different outcome but respect the court’s decision in relation to Christian Bittar. The SFO remains committed to tackling the most complex fraud, bribery and corruption”.
