Clearstream, Intesa Sanpaolo use Banca d’Italia solution at ECB trials
Clearstream and Intesa Sanpaolo have jointly issued and distributed a commercial paper using distributed-ledger technology (DLT).
The transactions took place in the context of the ECB trials aimed at exploring the potential of DLT for settling wholesale transactions in central bank money. The trials are productive transactions using real securities and money.
Clearstream acted as Market DLT Operator, providing the technical infrastructure with its digital securities platform D7. The participants used the TIPS Hash Link solution of the Italian central bank, Banca d’Italia.
The processes entirely run on Clearstream’s D7 DLT platform. They include both the issuance of the security itself and the transfer of the assets from the issuer to the investors. For this use case, Intesa Sanpaolo was using a direct connection to the D7 DLT platform.
