Coinbase hires Unit 42 CTO Michael Sikorski as its new CISO
Crypto exchange operator Coinbase (NASDAQ:COIN), fresh off a recent major series of layoffs, is still somewhat in hiring mode, adding information security expert Michael Sikorski as its new Chief Information Security Officer (CISO).
Michael Sikorski joins Coinbase from Unit 42, an anti-cyber-attack specialist company backed by Palo Alto Networks, where he was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the past four years. He also previously worked at Mandiant, FireEye, and the US National Security Agency (NSA).
Michael also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor, Computer Science at Columbia University.
Michael posted the following note on LinkedIn about his move to Coinbase.
I’m thrilled to announce that I’ve joined Coinbase as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO)!
My career has focused on advising security teams on emerging threats, building security products, and supporting organizations through high-stakes incident response. As the threat landscape evolves toward increasingly complex, decentralized ecosystems with AI-enabled attackers, it’s time to step out of the advisory seat and take on this challenge directly.
I’m honored to join Jeff Lunglhofer and the exceptional team at Coinbase. Together, we will secure the future of financial services, disrupt threat actors, and scale a highly resilient world-class security architecture.
Incredibly excited for this next chapter. Let’s go!
