Tokyo Commodity Exchange reports record trading volume of Electricity Futures for FY2025
The annual trading volume of Electricity Futures on Tokyo Commodity Exchange (TOCOM) for FY2025 was approximately 4,547 GWh.
It increased by about 2.2 times year-on-year, breaking its previous record. In particular, the annual trading volumes of East Area Baseload Electricity Futures and West Area Baseload Electricity Futures saw significant year-on-year growth, about 1.3 times and 2.3 times respectively.
The launch of fiscal-year contracts in May 2025 also played a significant role in driving the dramatic expansion of TOCOM’s Electricity Futures market.

On April 13, 2026, TOCOM plans to list Chubu Area Electricity Futures (Monthly and Fiscal Year). This will enable investors of TOCOM’s Electricity Futures to hedge against electricity prices in the Chubu area, where the demand for electricity by the automotive industry and households is relatively high.
