FNG Exclusive… FNG has learned that a new, Far East focused Retail FX and CFDs broker called Spec FX (website specfx.com) has launched, with backing from an investor group led by James E. Thompson III, Executive Chairman of Australia based logistics company Grace Group.
The parties did not disclose the size of the investment in Spec FX.
Spec FX is being run by former IC Markets director and CFO Lucy (Xu) Lu, based in Australia, who will serve as General Manager of Spec FX. Spec FX is operating as an offshore (Mauritius domiciled) broker, with group company XInvestment (Pty) Ltd holding a license from the FSCA in South Africa.
James E. Thompson III is a second-generation logistics industry leader, and son of James E. Thompson, Chairman and Founder of Crown Worldwide Group. With more than 20 years of executive management experience, Thompson III has led the development of over 30 state-of-the-art logistics facilities across the USA, Europe, and Asia. Crown Worldwide is a well established brand in over 60 major markets.
“We have always had a strong interest in the AI-driven trading industry, which is now undergoing a major transformation,” said James E. Thompson III, shareholder and spokesperson for the investment firm. “Spec FX has built a platform that speaks directly to smart, modern traders who want transparency, speed, and an edge in the market. This is why we are investing—not to follow the crowd, but to set a new standard.”
The parties said that the partnership will accelerate Spec FX’s expansion into new markets, enhance its technological infrastructure, and broaden its global reach. The firm brings proven expertise in scaling businesses internationally, with a diverse portfolio spanning logistics real estate, renewable energy, and cross-sector investments.
“As part of a global group with operations across multiple continents, we are committed to scaling businesses that have the potential to become true global leaders,” Thompson added. “We have an ambitious plan to make Spec FX a global player, and our first stage will be building a robust and scalable structure to support that growth.”
The investment represents a significant milestone for Spec FX as it positions itself to compete on the world stage.
“This partnership is a milestone for Spec FX,” said the Spec FX executive team. “With the backing of James E. Thompson III and our strategic investors, we are positioned to scale faster, innovate further, and deliver smarter trading solutions to clients worldwide.”
