CySEC warns against fraudulent websites promising loss recovery
The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has become aware of malicious websites which claim to offer investors services for the recovery of losses suffered as a result of investment in regulated or unregulated entities.
The following malicious websites, which are not affiliated with CySEC, have been identified:
- getyourmoneyback.ltd
- getyoursback.org
- theystole.net
- chargebackinternational.com
- chargebackme.com
- chargebackmoney.biz
These malicious websites are advertised online and on social media, mainly targeting people who have been victims of online fraud. They collect personal and financial information from investors through websites, emails and/or phone calls. These entities falsely represent themselves as being related to CySEC.
Through these websites, or through email addresses that resemble the CySEC`s domain (e.g. false email addresses that resemble @cysec.gov.cy), fraudsters are presenting themselves as officers or representatives of CySEC, offering to recover losses suffered by investors as a result of their investments in regulated or unregulated entities.
CySEC never contacts individuals by telephone or sends unsolicited correspondence and does not request personal data, financial or other information.
CySEC has no authority or mandate to collect fees for any purpose from individual investors, nor does it have authority to appoint anyone to do so on its behalf.
CySEC does not authorise, verify, monitor, or engage in any way in class actions, compensation schemes, payments between natural or legal entities or any public or private organisations.
