AFCA updates on status of complaints about Latitude cyber attack
The Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) has provided an update on the status of complaints about the Latitude cyber attack.
AFCA currently has over 180 open complaints in relation to the cyber-attack.
The Authority has finalised its determinations in the lead cases. These cases will provide the basis of AFCA’s decision making when considering the remaining complaints. While each decision depends on the particular circumstances of the complaint, lead cases help establish a precedent and provide guidance on how similar issues will be addressed. They serve as a reference point for consistency and transparency in decision-making.
You can view the lead determinations here using the case numbers 12-00-968049 or 12-00-967717.
AFCA is now moving to finalise the remaining open complaints. This will take some time given the large volume of open complaints but AFCA is hopeful to have all remaining complaints resolved by December 2025.
You do not need to take any further action regarding your complaint with AFCA at this stage. AFCA will contact you when it will start looking at the circumstances of your complaint.
Latitude may reach out to you to try and resolve your complaint. You are able to accept this offer or ask AFCA to issue a determination on your complaint.
Latitude was subject to a cyber-attack in March 2023 that resulted in the theft of personal information. The theft affected customers, past customers and applicants across Australia and New Zealand.
