Stephen Dainton to become Co-Head of Global Markets – Distribution at Barclays
Following the appointment of C.S. Venkatakrishnan (Venkat) as Group Chief Executive of Barclays on 4 November 2021, Barclays has announced a set of changes concerning its Group Executive Committee & Corporate and Investment Bank leadership.
Stephen Dainton will become Co-Head of Global Markets – Distribution, alongside Adeel Khan as Co-Head of Global Markets – Trading. Stephen Dainton was most recently Deputy Head of Markets, and Adeel Khan was most recently Global Head of Credit Products.
Stephen Dainton has over 30 years of experience in global markets across trading, sales, risk, capital markets, structuring, and research. He joined Barclays in September 2017 as Global Head of Equities and Co Head of Markets.
Prior to Barclays, Stephen Dainton spent 14 years at Credit Suisse where he served as Co-Head of Global Markets for the EMEA region. He joined Credit Suisse in 2003 in the Equity Division and went on to become Head of Equities for the region, before assuming his global markets role.
Previously, he worked at Goldman Sachs as Head of US and International Equities, based in New York. He has also held roles in Equities at Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette in both London and New York.
He graduated from The University of Exeter.
Barclays PLC announced on November 1, 2021, that Jes Staley was stepping down as Group Chief Executive and as a director of Barclays.
The announcement was issued shortly Barclays and Mr Staley had beeen made aware of the preliminary conclusions from the FCA and the PRA of their investigation into Mr Staley’s characterisation to Barclays of his relationship with the late Mr Jeffrey Epstein and the subsequent description of that relationship in Barclays’ response to the FCA. In view of those conclusions, and Mr Staley’s intention to contest them, the Board and Mr Staley agreed that he would step down from his role as Group Chief Executive and as a director of Barclays.
