Exclusive: GCEX hires Saxo and IBKR alum Theo Papathanasiou
FNG Exclusive… FNG has learned that London based regulated cryptocurrency exchange GCEX has continued its hiring spree, and added veteran institutional FX executive Theo Papathanasiou.
Like many of the other recent hires at GCEX, Mr. Papathanasiou shares some common background with GCEX founder Lars Holst, having spent six years at Saxo Bank from 2012-2018 where he was Head of Global Sales Trading and Head of Client Trading Services – UK. Mr. Papathanasiou then moved to Interactive Brokers in the US online broker’s London office as Regional Sales Director, on an EMEA business development mandate.
Theo Papathanasiou commented on social media about joining GCEX:
“Institutions are starting to take serious notice of digital assets and their potential. Recent reports from Fidelity and J. P Morgan have stated the unique position of this asset class. My role at GCEX is to assist Lars and the team in converting FX faithfuls to expand their offering to crypto, and help knock on the doors of institutions as demand increases to explore a safe, reliable and compliant way to access this growing market. ”
GCEX founder and CEO Lars Holst added:
“Having another seasoned executive on the team only adds to our credibility and pedigree in this area, something I believe is lacking in the existing crypto market space. But I believe it is equally important to add yet another safe pair of hands to expand our White Label and FX distribution, which is a cornerstone of GCEX, both for revenue and our expansion roadmap.”
Other recent hires at GCEX have included Saxo, IG, and ActivTrades alum Torben Gregers Friis as MD-EMEA, CFI alum Ayman Kobti as Regional Director MENA, and longtime CFI sales head Søren Bjerregaard as Sales Director.
