Spain’s AEPD halts data collection by Worldcoin
Spain’s Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has ordered Tools for Humanity Corporation to cease the collection and processing of personal data that it is carrying out in Spain within the framework of its Worldcoin project.
The AEPD has received several complaints against this company referring to insufficient information about the data gathering, the collection of data from minors or that withdrawal of consent is not allowed.
The processing of biometric data, considered in the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as having special protection, entails high risks for people’s rights, taking into account their sensitive nature. Consequently, this precautionary measure is a decision based on exceptional circumstances, in which it is necessary and proportionate to adopt provisional measures aimed at the immediate cessation of this processing of personal data, preventing its possible transfer to third parties and safeguarding the fundamental right to personal data protection.
Worldcoin token (WLD) is a token distributed to people for being unique individuals.
The website of Worldcoin states:
“There are no guarantees about how much WLD will be worth, or whether it will have value. Similar to other digital assets, the value of the Worldcoin token may change – even significantly – up or down. It will likely be determined by a number of factors that are not dependent on, or in the control of, any single group of people, including the total number of World ID holders, the range of applications the developer community devises and builds, and the supply of the token in circulation”.
Everyone who has verified their uniqueness at an Orb may claim free Worldcoin (WLD) tokens in their World App, so long as they are located in a place where WLD token is available. At the moment, eligible verified users can claim 1 free WLD token per week with no maximum.
