Crypto.com buys CySEC CIF license to expand “traditional” instrument trading across Europe
Following our report from earlier today that rival Kraken was launching its regulated derivative products offering in Europe from its recently-acquired Cyprus CySEC licensed unit, crypto trading platform operator Crypto.com has announced that it had secured a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive (MiFID) license after receiving approval of its acquisition of A.N. Allnew Investments Ltd from the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC).
A.N. Allnew was previously the operator of the LegacyFX and XEPrime online brokerage brands.
A.N. Allnew holds a CIF license from CySEC to provide investment and ancillary services in relation to various financial instruments. With this acquisition, Crypto.com said it will be able to offer eligible users a broad range of financial products, including securities, derivatives, contracts for difference (CFDs) and more.
This comes after Crypto.com received its MiCA licence in January 2025 allowing it to passport services across the European Economic Area (EEA), and is the latest milestone in support of the Crypto.com Roadmap and its plans to ambitiously expand its product offerings.
Kris Marszalek, Co-Founder and CEO of Crypto.com said,
“Securing a MiFID licence alongside our MiCA licence further solidifies Crypto.com’s position in offering the most comprehensive and regulated suite of financial products for users in the EEA. We have already expanded our brand presence in Europe since receiving our MiCA licence and we now look forward to providing customers across the region even more ways to engage with our platform through these new offerings.”
The MiFID license adds to Crypto.com’s expanding list of licenses and registrations globally and this announcement also follows a number of recent acquisitions for Crypto.com including the acquisition of ASIC licensed Fintek Securities Pty Ltd in Australia, Charterprime Ltd, Orion Principals Limited and SEC registered broker-dealer Watchdog Capital, LLC.
Crypto.com has also been recruiting some talent from the FX and CFDs brokerage world, such as its recent hire of IG Group alum Alex Ratford as Partnerships head.
