State Street introduces PriceStats Superset
State Street Corporation (NYSE:STT) has launched State Street PriceStats Superset, a new, global dataset that provides daily, item-level pricing data to help investors, policymakers and researchers better understand the drivers of inflation in advance of government data releases.
As inflation remains one of the most important and difficult to interpret economic forces shaping markets, PriceStats Superset offers a more timely and transparent view of how price pressures are developing across economies, sectors and individual goods. The dataset helps users to move beyond headline inflation figures to examine the underlying forces influencing economic and investment decisions.
For more than a decade, State Street PriceStats has helped investors, policymakers and researchers monitor inflation trends through high-frequency measures that provide an earlier read on price developments than official inflation releases. Building on that foundation, PriceStats Superset unlocks access to the underlying item-level data powering the PriceStats indices, allowing users to trace inflation dynamics from individual products to categories, sectors and ultimately headline inflation measures.
“Inflation remains one of the defining challenges for economies today, but insights into what’s driving it are often too little too late,” said Will Kinlaw, head of Data Intelligence and Markets Research at State Street. “PriceStats Superset provides a daily look at price changes across millions of products and services, how they’re spreading through an economy and what they may signal for markets and policy. In an environment when inflation can shift quickly, timeliness matters.”
State Street PriceStats Superset captures daily price observations across 27 countries and millions of products, enabling users to identify inflation trends earlier and with greater transparency. The dataset includes more than 50 billion price observations and continues to expand, supporting analysis across economic cycles, geographies and market regimes.
“Markets move on expectations, and expectations are heavily influenced by inflation,” said Donna Milrod, chief product officer at State Street. “By providing visibility into the building blocks of inflation, PriceStats Superset helps clients turn vast amounts of data into actionable insight. Its ability to provide a more timely view of inflation trends gives clients earlier signals to inform decision-making. It’s another example of how we’re combining data, technology and research to help clients make more informed decisions and navigate an evolving macroeconomic environment.”
The launch further enhances State Street’s broader Data Intelligence strategy, which is designed to help clients better understand market dynamics, uncover emerging economic trends and make more informed investment decisions. It also further strengthens State Street’s Markets Research franchise, which has partnered with PriceStats since 2011 to deliver actionable inflation research to clients.
