Darwinex adds Spain CNMV license
UK and Spain based broker and asset manager Darwinex has announced that it has obtained a license from the Comisión Nacional de Mercado de Valores (CNMV) in Spain to operate in the country, and in the rest of the countries of the European Economic Area.
Juan Colón, Darwinex CEO and co-founder said:
“It has been a pleasure to collaborate with the CNMV regulator to adapt our business model, compliance processes, operations and finance to the Spanish regulation. This step closes our post-Brexit roadmap. We can now focus on improving our offering and on accelerating our growth.”
The license granted by the CNMV is in addition to the one previously obtained by the company from the UK’s Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), which has allowed the company to operate since 2014.
Darwinex is a fintech that transforms trading strategies into investable indices, accessible to thousands of investors. The Darwinex platform provides the necessary infrastructure for traders to trade and attract investment while offering investors an alternative product without intermediaries and with institutional fees.
Darwinex has a risk engine that monitors investor risk independently from traders and equalizes the risk of all investable strategies. The fintech has more than 170,000 users in 75 countries and more than 80 million euros under management.
“Our investable indices create a symbiosis between traders and investors around an alternative product that stands out for being uncorrelated to traditional markets,” says Colón.
Founded in 2012, Darwinex has offices in London and Madrid, where it employs more than 60 people. The company has closed three rounds of growth funding raising 9 million euros up to date. Its shareholders include professionals from the fintech arena, such as Stefan Jaeklin, former Global Head of Asset Management at Oliver Wyman, Ignacio Sánchez-Asiaín, former CEO of Kutxabank and Illimar Mattus, Co-founder of Pinorena Capital.
