Admiral Markets limits positions in $GME, $AMC, $EXPR, $NOK
Global Retail FX and CFDs broker Admiral Markets has taken further steps to protect both itself and clients around the recent retail trading frenzy enveloping heavily shorted US stocks.
After earlier this week lowering leverage allowed in silver trading – as Reddit forum stoked traders turned their attention briefly from stocks to commodities – Admiral Markets has set certain conditions for the trading of Gamestop Corp ($GME), AMC Entertainment Holdings Inc ($AMC), Express Inc ($EXPR), and Nokia Oyj ($NOK).
Admiral Markets said that with the extraordinary market activity over the past week, and the temporary close-only restrictions it has added on certain securities, it has informed clients that starting today (February 2, 2021) the opening of new positions on Invest.MT5 account (long only) in the securities listed above is currently allowed, but limited.
A maximum exposure limit of €5,000, or equivalent in another currency, is applied to each above-mentioned securities on Invest.MT5 account. The exposure limit is the maximum absolute value of the position clients are allowed to take in their accounts. So, if the current Stock price is $225 (approx €185), a client would be able to open up to €5,000, so €187 = 27 lots.
If a client’s existing positions is already over the new maximum exposure limit, they will remain unaffected. However, clients will not be able to open any new positions in each of these securities unless they first sell enough of their holdings such that they are below the respective limit.
A maximum contract size per trade is set to one share to meet requirements and continue to provide proper service to clients avoiding rejections or manipulation in the markets.
Admiral Markets noted that they are closely monitoring the situation within these equities, and will further adjust trading terms as may be required to adequately reflect any changes in the relevant markets, and ensure they accurately reflect current levels of market volatility and liquidity.
