Exclusive: Saxo Bank Customer Director Thomas Dam departs
FNG Exclusive… FNG has learned that Saxo Bank’s Customer Director Thomas Dam has left the company.
Thomas Dam was one of the longest tenured Saxo Bank employees, having joined the Copenhagen based online broker (back when it was known as Midas) just a year after its founding in 1993, 32 years ago. After serving in several commercial and customer-facing roles, including Director of Wealth Management in the Nordics, Thomas was most recently Customer Director at Saxo Bank.
The departure comes on the heels of the acquisition of control of Saxo Bank by the Safra Group, which Thomas referenced in an explanatory note he posted on social media (translated from Danish).
After 32 years at Saxo Bank, it’s time to listen to life – and open a new chapter.
It feels both strange and absolutely right to write this: I resigned from my position at Saxo Bank on Tuesday and will stop at Saxo Bank by January 2026.
When you’ve been somewhere for 32 years, it becomes more than a workplace. It becomes part of your identity, your history and – in my case – a place where I’ve been allowed to be myself. A place where relationships, trust and humanity have always meant just as much as numbers, strategies, processes and results.
The past few years have made me think about how I want to spend my time going forward. Not only professionally – but also in terms of curiosity, courage and quality of life. I’m soon to turn 56, and I can feel that now is the time when I have to dare to stop, notice and make room for a new chapter.
Just after the turn of the year, Saxo Bank will be integrated with the Swiss bank J. Safra Sarasin, which was also a natural reason for me to consider where I stand. After so many years in the same organization, I will now give myself time and peace to investigate what the next chapter should be. This requires reflection, good conversations and an honest assessment of where I can create the most value. Over the years, and especially recently, I have received several inquiries and offers. I will give myself the time to have the right conversations – with the right people – and find exactly the place where my experience with customers, commercial development and management can be of the most benefit.
When I walked through the door of MIDAS (as Saxo Bank was called at the time) on June 16, 1993, I was a 23-year-old guy with a big smile, a lot of energy and an enormous desire to create relationships and positive results. I didn’t know where it would lead me – but I hoped that I could make a difference for people. That hope has been my common thread ever since.
I have always believed that integrity, presence, humor, passion and high professionalism can move more than you think. And I have been incredibly lucky: My work has given me friendships, communities, trust and experiences that I would not have been without.
I am deeply grateful to all of you I have worked with – customers, colleagues, managers and partners. You have made my journey meaningful. I hope to continue the relationship with many of you, even when I no longer have the Saxo logo on my business card.
2026 will be the start of something new – and I am sincerely looking forward to it.
A farewell reception will be held in mid-January at Saxo Bank, more info about this will follow.
Thomas
