Capital.com hires IG/LMAX alum John Austin as CSO
London based Retail FX and CFDs broker Capital.com has continued to reshape its senior management C-Suite, announcing the appointment of industry veteran John Austin as its Chief Strategy Officer. Based in London, John will be responsible for implementing strategic direction, fostering innovation and driving initiatives that contribute to the company’s growth trajectory.
The move is the first major executive hire made by Capital.com under new CEO Kypros Zoumidou. Kypros Zoumidou replaced Peter Hetherington as CEO of Capital.com in October.
John Austin joins Capital.com with more than two decades of experience in the derivatives trading and brokerage space, most notably as a senior executive of IG Group where, over several years, he held group-wide responsibility for dealing, online marketing and data science. He has also led strategic initiatives such as the development of Nadex, a US derivatives exchange, and Spectrum, a Frankfurt-based MTF. More recently he served as Chief Strategy Officer at LMAX Group, where he worked on a series of strategic initiatives in the FX brokerage and Crypto exchange space.
John’s extensive experience also includes a period in investment banking, where he was involved in designing and executing large-scale structured transactions for Barclays Capital. Beyond his corporate roles, John served on the Advisory Board of Coinrule, a fintech startup. John holds an MA from Cambridge University and an MSc in Finance from London Business School.
The company said that John’s appointment underpins Capital.com’s commitment to strategic growth and follows strong year-on-year growth. Trading volumes across the platform reached USD 1.2 trillion at the end of November 2023, eclipsing its 2022 highs by more than 17%.
Commenting on John’s appointment, Kypros Zoumidou, Group CEO, Capital.com, said:
“As the financial landscape continues to evolve rapidly, Capital.com recognises the need for a dedicated executive to lead the development and execution of strategic initiatives that align with the company’s global growth ambitions. John’s appointment reflects our dedication to staying at the forefront of the industry and driving Capital.com’s growth to new heights.”
John Austin, Chief Strategy Officer, Capital.com, said:
“I am honoured to be part of Capital.com at such a pivotal time in its growth journey. I look forward to supporting Capital.com’s ambitions to diversify and grow its clientbase, expand into new markets and cement its market-leading position as a fast-growing, tech-first trading platform.”
